MARY     EZEMY

Mary Ezemy was born 1705 in Belfast Northern Ireland. .  She came to America with her husband John Kelly and Mary Ezemy Kelly. re Find A Grave for Mill Creek Quaker Cemetery.  They probably wed in Belfast about 1725, though I have no documentation at this time.  When they left for America they had at least one son: Samuel Kelly.  It is equally possible that some or all their children were born in Belfast.

According to Delaware Biographies which I found years ago in the Philadelphia Historical Society collection, "Samuel Kelley was born in Scotland, immigrated in his youth and settled in upper New Castle County.  He became a land owner and spent his life farming.  He was buried at White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church where he was a member".  I do not have the page number, the compiler or their sources.

So two stories of Samuel's birthplace and hence his parents.   I'm sure they were Scots but born in Ireland.  ie of the Scots that were transplanted from their home and became the foundation of the Scotch Irish. And he was buried in Mill Creek Quaker Cemetery.

Mary Ezemy Kelly apparently dropped the Mary and was known as Ezemy Kelly.  When her son, Samuel had children, one of his daughters was named Ezemy.  It is a very unusual name.   I have not been able to find the name related to any family or individual in Scotland or North Ireland.

It is not known when the Kelly family immigrated into Delaware.   One on-line source suggested all their children were born in North Ireland.  I've found no tax or real estate records for John Kelly in Delaware. All I have so far is their burial site and her will.

The children of John and Mary Ezemy Kelly were:
1.  William Kelly
2.  Samuel Kelly, born 1729 in Belfast re Find a Grave
3.  James Kelly
4.  John Kelly - born in or after 1736 - re her Will where he was to be provided clothing until he was 21.
5.  Margaret Kelly
6.  Elizabeth Kelly
7.  Thomas Kelly
8.  Mary Kelly

There is a will New Castle County written Aug. 3, 1757, probated on Dec. 21, 1758 in Wills New Castle Misc 1.266  for Ezemy Kelly widow of Mill Creek.  The exe was son William, and heirs listed included sons Samuel, William, Thomas, John and James and daughters Mary, Margaret and Elizabeth.

Samuel is buried in the Mill Creek Quaker Cemetery along with his parents and first wife Rebecca. His second wife lived over 30 years after he died.
