 THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.

The search is for the parents of Nathaniel Hubbard. He was listed on the 1850 Caldwell County KY Census as born 1826 in Tennessee. There was in a neighbor KY county another Nathaniel that could be his father. This is the set of details found on him. However, there is no clear connection between the two Nathaniels. Do you have one?

Nathaniel Hubbard was born between 1780/90 in Virginia. His parents were George Hubbard and Katherine Lacy. His family moved to Kentucky by 1807 where they are found on the Hopkins County Tax List that year.

About 1808 Nathaniel wed Margaret Butler in Kentucky. The 1820 Hopkins County Ky Census shows this family:
Nathaniel, age 20 - 45
Margaret, age 20-45
3 sons under 10,
2 daughters under 10

Just next to them were two more Hubbard families:
Liner Hubbard, also 20-45
his wife, 20-45
1 son under 10
1 son 10-16
1 daughter under 10

Catherine Hubbard, over 45
1 son 16-20

We can assume that George had died between 1800 & 1804. The above mentioned Hopkins County Tax List was also in Catherine's name. Liner was probably a brother to Nathaniel.

The 1830 Hopkins County Census gives more information on the family.

Nathaniel Hubbard, age 30/40 (so his birthdate must be closer to 1790 than 1780)
Margaret, age 30/40
2 sons under 5,  (could have been our Nathaniel)
1 son 5-10
1 son 10-15
2 sons 15-20
1 daughter 5-10
1 daughter 10-15

Also on the County Census 1830 was
John Hubbard, age 20-30
(he could have been George's son listed with Catherine in 1820
his wife 30/40
1 son under 5
1 daughter under 5
1 daughter 10-15

The 1840 Hopkins County Census shows Margaret as head of Household, so Nathaniel died between 1830/1835. It is not know where he was buried. The family in 1840 was:
Margaret Hubbard, age 40/50
5 sons listed - 1 20-30 years old, 1 15-20 years old, 2 10-15 years old, 1 5-10 years old
2 daughters listed - 1 20-30 years old, 1 15-20 years old.

To reconstruct the whole family there were:
2 sons born between 1810-1815    James & unknown
1 son born between 1815 - 1820    Butler
1 son born between 1820 - 1825    William
2 sons born between 1825 - 1830    Nathaniel   &  Elhanah
1 son born between 1830 - 1835    Martin
1 daughter born between 1810 - 1820 either died or wed and moved away by 1830 
1 daughter born between 1815 - 1820    Mary Elizabeth
1 daughter born between 1820 -1825   Catherine

The children's names all came from Ancestry family trees, but they fit the census data.  There is often an Eli near Nathaniel on Census and Farm Populations charts. Could Elhanah be the proper name for Eli?

So much fits for this to be our Nathaniel Hubbard's family - except the statement on the census that he was born in Tennessee.

Nothing further is known about Nathaniel or Margaret.

2. Confirm his parents.
3. What are the names and birthdates of the children
4. When did Nathaniel die and where is he buried?
5. What happened to Margaret?
6. Is one of the sons the Nathaniel, born 1826 who wed Sarah Perry?
7. Is Elhanah Hubbard the same person as Eli Hubbard?
