REUBEN HUBBARD
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.
Reuben Hubbard was born about 1750 probably in Virginia. His parents are unknown. He married an Elizabeth who became his widow.
Little is known about Reuben. A Reuben appears on the 1820 Tennessee Census in White County. It shows a family of:
1 male over 45 years of age (Reuben)
1 female over 45 (Elizabeth?)
1 male under 10
1 female 10 – 16
2 females under 10
Located close by was William Hubbard, age 26 – 45 with 3 young children and Joseph Hubbard, age 26-45 with 6 young children.
The 1820 Tennessee Census of Wilson County also has a Reuben :
1 male over 45 years of age (Reuben)
1 female over 45 years of age
1 male under 10
2 females 26 - 45
Close by is Joseph Hubbard, age 26-45 with 6 children
That same year the Wilson County Deed Book shows that Joseph Hubbard sold land that was bounded by land own by Reuben Hubbard. This land was on Smith’s Fork. Two sets of Reuben and Joseph Hubbard in nearby counties? Or are these the same families with census errors?
The 1830 Wilson County Census shows Reuban Hubbard, male 60-70 with a wife 70-80 and 3 other adult females, a male 40-50 and 8 children. There was no Joseph listed in Wilson County.
The Wilson County Deed Book has a record noting Reuben Hubbard’s land sold by his widow Elizabeth, on Nov. 27, 1839. The Wilson County Will Book then shows a settlement to Joseph and Sissah Hubbard on Nov. 3, 1841. We believe this is a settlement of his father’s estate. It needs to be read.
There is much to be settled about this family and it's connection to the Hubbards of Caldwell County Kentucky.
