THE STORY AS I KNOW IT

Martha Mary Missimer was born Jan/22/1859 in Delaware, probably in Mill Creek Hundred where her parents were found on the 1850 Census, shortly after they wed. They were William J. Missimer and Martha Ann Devlin.  re Delaware Census, New Castle count Mill Creek Hundred, page 3.  I have a note that says she was called Mattie.

In 1860 she was now the baby of four children.  They were still in Mill Creek Hundred but this time the added info is Post office Mermaid.  Her father was a wheel wright. re the Delaware 1860 Census, roll M653_97, page 318.  Sometime in the next 4 years the family moved to  Chester County Pennsylvania Franklin Township, Kemblesville. there the family is found on the 1870 Census with 2 more children and Martha is attending school. 

On 4/20/1880 she married Thomas Hughes Pennock in Philadelphia. Rev. WR Bingham conducted the ceremony.  They made their home in Wilmington Delaware.
The Wilmington City Directory traces his work and homes.  In the 1882/83 Directory T. H. Pennock was a salesman for Nathan Lieberman's store at 5th and Market St.
Their home was 607 Madison St.   By the next year 1883/4 they had moved to 621 W. 7th St.

During the early 1880s Thomas N. Foreman was also a salesman for Liebermans.  By 1890, and possibly as early as 1884 The two had become business partners and owned Pennock and Foreman - men's clothing at 428 Market St.

.Martha Mary and Thomas Hughes Pennock  had 4 known children. They were:
1. Harry Rile Pennock born 1880, he wed Etta Cooper Boulden,
2. Mabel Irene Pennock born 1883, she wed Edgar Sheppard Hammond
3. Erma Clara Pennock born 1885, died April 18, 1911
4. Paul Thomas Pennock born 1889 he wed Edith Rambo

Thomas Pennock died 11/22/1901.  His widow, Martha Mary was still living at 621 W. 7th St. in 1906.  Their son, Harry Rile Pennock purchased a home at 508 W. 9th Street in 1908 and Martha Mary moved in with him in 1909.  She lived there over 20 years.

She died Dec. 18, 1930. Find a Grave memorial #17597290 A copy of her death certificate is on the Find a Grave site. Martha Mary is buried at  Riverview Cemetery with her husband Thomas Hughes Pennock and  their daughter Erma Clara Pennock.
