THOMAS & LUCY STREET
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.
Thomas Street was born 1745 in Orange County VA. His parents were Anthony Street and "Betsey" Elizabeth Brockman. Both parents came from respected, involved families in the early life of Virginia history.
Thomas married Lucy, last name unknown, about 1770. They
had at least nine children:
1. Elizabeth "Betsey" Street, born about 1771
2. Anthony Street, born about 1773
3. Simon Thomas Street, born about 1775
4. John Street, born about 1777
5. Nancy Street, born about 1779
6. Franky Street – a daughter, born about 1781
7. Nimrod Street born about
1784, married Catherine Parrack
8. Lewviny Street, born about 1785
9. Lucy Street born about 1787
1790 Rutherford County NC
Census page 134 has Thomas Street. Son Simon is
head of household
in the same county. The census has Thomas'
family as:
2 males > 16Thomas and son Anthony
2 sons <16 John
and Nimrod
6 females Lucy, and all
daughters listed above.
no
slaves
In 1795 the family was living in Rutherford Ct, North
Carolina. Thomas Street wrote a will on
August 23, 1795. It was proved January 1, 1800 in that
county. In the will he lists "four youngest daughters:
Nancy, Franky, Lewviny and Lucy. To each one cow
& calf, a feather bed and furniture equal to the value
that my eldest, Elizabeth has in her possession, as
they come of age." Then "youngest son, Nimrod, 1
horse, valued at 15 pounds when he comes of age. Balance
of the estate to wife Lucy. At her death all to be
divided amongst all my children without exception. "
The executors were his wife Lucy and son Anthony.
Witnesses: Robert H Taylor, Joseph Grayson, and William
Forbers .
This is in Rutherford Ct Will Book B, page 106.
Approximate birth dates for the children were derived from
this document. So Thomas died late
1799.
The Rutherford County 1800 Census strongly implies
that Lucy died soon after her husband Thomas.
Possible early 1800. Listed is the family::
Betsey Street head of household with
1 male 16-26 (Nimrod)
1 female 26-40 (Betsey)
1 female 16-26 (Franky)
2 females 10-16 (Lewviny & Lucy)
The order and age of the young daughters is based on the
order given in the will. Nancy must have been wed
and gone by the census taking.
Anthony, Simon and John are all heads of families
on the 1800 Rutherford County census with no older woman
living with them.
It is not known where Thomas and Lucy are
buried, but there is an online suggestion that they are
buried in the abandoned graveyard of the very first Little
Broad River Baptist church. they were said to be
active in this church and there are a number of unmarked
stones at the site. It is located off Cane Creek Mt.
Rd near Dyartsville, NC.
