MRS. HANNAH EDWARDS

Mrs. Hannah Edwards was born about 1720. We are not sure of her maiden name. We don't know who her parents were or where she was born.

Elias Williams had a will drawn Nov. 1742, which was proved December 20, 1742 in Cecil County, Maryland that mentions Hannah Edwards. Perhaps she was his daughter?
Well, no, she was not.  I found the deed of Nathanial Williams, brother to Elias Williams, Cecil county Deed Book 7, pages 171-173.  In the deed it states the property had come down to Nathaniel from his brother Elias when "he died without issue".  There may be a connection between our Hannah and Elias, but he was not her father.

Hannah married John Edwards about 1740. They lived on land that straddled Cecil County Maryland and Pencader Hundred in New Castle County Delaware. The area was also known as The Welsh Track. It had been settled by Welsh Baptist. The Delaware Archives, Military and Navel Vol. 2, page 315 note where Hanah Edwards of Pencader Hundred was paid for goods taken by the British during the Revolution.

Hannah and John had at least 3 known children. They were all daughters:
1. Hannah who married John Faries
2. Margaret
3. Susanne

John Edwards owned 307 acres on Old Kings Rd on the Broad Creek Branch in Pencader. Upon his death in 1780, the three daughters inherited the property; Margaret and Susannah who were still at home and Hannah who was then married. This was found in the recorder of Deeds. John Edwards will, proved in Delaware on Nov. 4, 1780 names his wife, Daughter, Hannah and husband and two youngest daughters. Hannah was one of the Executors, along with Isaac Lewis. This will is noted in A Calendar of Delaware Wills 1682-1800.

The three girls inherited the plantation. Margaret and Susanne Edwards sold their portion of the property to John Faries and wife in 1780. It is found in Deed book E2 page 547. I believe it probable that Hannah stayed on the plantation until she died.

I have a note that does not list the source that on Feb 22, 1787 Samuel Guthrey and wife, William Patterson and William Weir were administrators of Hannah Edwards, deceased.
