JONATHAN EDWARDS
Jonathan Edwards was born March 20, 1703 probably in the Pencader Hundred of New Castle County Delaware.
What little I know comes from The Boulden Family by Estelle Smith Kepler. She says "Jonathan was the son of _______ and Margot Edwards". I have never been able to find Margot. There was a Morgan Edwards who was from the same area and time. However, the way Ms. Kepler wrote the information it appears that the father's name is unknown and Margot was his mother.
We do not know whom Jonathan married. I have a note that
Jonathan owed land near Choptank Road and that John
Faries was a neighbor. Jonathan's granddaughter, Hannah Edwards married a John Faries,
probably the son of this landowner.
On Dec. 12, 1780 John and Hannah Faries bought 307 acres from her sisters Margaret and Susannah Edwards. This land was on Old Kings Rd, and Broad Creek Branch. New Castle Deed Book Vol 5, page 47. This is where the description of the land was found.
Inhabitants of Cecil County by Henry C. Peden note men by their names as owning land in that county of Maryland. A John Edwards owned 4 acres in 1752 named Edward's Fancy. A John Faris had Jones Green Springs from 1755 - 1766. Coincidence?
They lived on land that straddled or was adjacent to Cecil County Maryland. Pencader Hundred was also known as The Welsh Track. It had been settled by Welsh Baptist.
We know Jonathan had at least one child, John Edwards born about 1725.
Ms. Kepler's genealogy states that Jonathan Edwards died in 1799
