BARBARA BURER
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
Barbara Burer was born about 1617 probably
in Bessingen an der Teck,
Wurttemberg, Germany. This
village is south east of Stuttgart. From the Protestant church
records of Bissingen microfilmed
by the LDS library. FHL Film #1055843, Dated 1612
- 1774. Her father was Michael Burer, her mother is unknown.
The way the records are recorded is that when there is a
marriage it gives the husband, wife, date of marriage,
where it took place, the grooms father, the brides
father. If there was a previous marriage the father
is not listed. We know that on March 19, 1639, Barbara Burer married
Georg Merckhlen,
He had been previously married, but her father is listed,
so she had not been previously married. Georg Mercklen's
first marriage is also recorded, just 2 years before his
marriage to Barbara. So I believe she was reasonably
young at the time and most is not children known to be his
were born of Barbara.
Barbara Burer and
Georg Mercklen
were married in
Bissingen an der Teck, Wurttemberg, Germany.
Georg had four known children,
all born in Bissingen: and I believe all the children of
Barbara. We don't have there birth date, only the
date of their marriages, first for each of them.
They are in marriage order.
1. Catharina Merckhlen
wed 1662 to Peter Reichardt
2. Maria Merckhlen
wed Nov. 19, 1667 to
Hannss Naegele
3. Georg Mercklen wed
1668 to Barbara Schayer
4. Jacob Merckhlen wed 1671 to Anna Gienger
Bissingen an der Tech is a small neat farming community
known for its orchard. It was probably the same in
the 1600s.
We don't know exactly when Barbara Burer Merckhlen died. Her husband, Georg married a 3rd
time in June 1653. I assume Barbara had died
sometime during the previous year, leaving Georg with at
least 4 young children to raise.
