THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
John Allen was born the 3rd day of 8th month of
1694 - US Quaker Meeting Records, London Grove
MM Hicksit, 1681-1935 pg6, I believe that translates
to Oct. 3rd, 1694 using the Quaker system of dating at
that time. The Quakers changed to the current calendar
construct in 1752.
John Allen was from North Ireland, and
probably was born there. We do not know his
parents, yet. On 3rd day 2nd month (June) 1714 he
was received at Newark MM with a certificate from Ireland.
John married Emey Cox at the Newark
MM on 2nd day 3rd month (May) 1719. The Newark
Monthly Meeting was not in what is now Newark Delaware,
but on the north side of the Brandywine river off Baynard
Blvd near I-95 intersection with Marsh Rd.
The Allen family settled in Chester County. On the 1700-1730 Map of "Lands Around London Grove Meeting", a John Allen is shown to own 63 acres on the East edge of London Grove next to the northwest corner of New Garden. John Allen was called a bricklayer, in Genealogy of Allen and Witter Families by Asa W. Allen. and he may well have been but in his will, his original 63 acres was noted to contain a corn/grist mill and a saw mill.
London Grove is roughtly bounded by Street Rd, Newark
Rd and 141. The London Grove Meeting house
is in the north east corner
John and Emey Allen had 9 children, listed with
their birthdates in the 1681-1935 Quaker Meeting
Records for London Grove MM, Hicksite page 6. Additional
notes after the children relate to John's Will written in
1769, noted below.

Neither Emey or Mary are mentioned in his
will but grandchildren surnamed Ward and Moore
are. We assume the young women had died but their
children were remembered. It also appears that
all the children of John and Emey Allen stayed in
the area.
