THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.

Anna Louisa Nichols was born May 31, 1850 in Caldwell County Kentucky. Her parents were Josiah Nichols and Margarete Creekmur called Peggy.  The 1850 Caldwell County, KY Census lists the family as:
Josiah Nichols, age 40 born Caldwell Ct.
Margarett Nichols, age 31, born Virginia
Eli Nichols, age 4 born in Caldwell Ct. Ky
Ann L., age 1 month, born in Caldwell Ct. KY
John W. Smith, age 7, born Trigg City KY

Anna Louisa's daughter told me that Margarett Nichols had raised the son, Willis Smith, of her sisiter.  However, no record of a Creekmur marrying a Smith has been found.

Anna Louisa married Robert Patterson Hubbard about 1870 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. The 1870 Caldwell County Census shows Robert P. Hubbard, age 21 was living with Josiah Nichols as was Anna L. Hubbard age 20.

The 1880 Caldwell County Census states that the family was made up of:
R. P. Hubbard male age 31, born in Kentucky
A. L. female age 30, born in Kentucky
L. M. female age 8, born in Kentucky
W. J. male age 6, born in Kentucky
W.O. male age 4, born in Kentucky
L.O. female age 2 born in Kentucky

I have the Hubbard Family Bible. It starts with the marriage of R.P.Hubbard to A.L.Nichols on January 18th 1872. The early handwriting is beautiful. If you should want a copy CONTACT US.

This is the names and dates given in the bible for the family.

Joseph Leonard Hubbard born about May 27,1884 wed Matilda Vanderlingen.

Anna Louisa was stricken with cancer and died Oct 17, 1889 leaving 7 children with their father. Robert Patterson was reputed to be a womanizer. He was shot and killed through the window of his house by an irate husband on Jan 9, 1894. The children were going to be divided amongst willing relatives. However, Uncle Joe moved into the house and with the help of Elmary , the oldest daughter, kept the family together and raised all the children. Uncle Joe Hubbard was Robert's bachelor brother. When all the children were grown, Uncle Joe made the circuit living with each for a month or so at a time. They became known as the "Uncle Visits".

Anna Louisa and Robert are both buried in the Perry Cemetery. It is found just off Route 293, about 4 miles northeast of Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky.
