JOSIAH NICHOLS
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.
Josiah Nichols was born on April 19, 1810 in Caldwell County Kentucky. His parents were Eli Nichols and Christian Haile (or Hale). The Nichol's Family story is recorded in The Caldwell County Kentucky History. The birthdate of Josiah came from Gregory Watson, Caldwell County Genealogist.
Josiah was married to Margaret (Peggy) Creekmur on October 6, 1844 by Joseph C. Weller. This is found in Caldwell County marriages 1809-1891.
The 1860 Caldwell County Census lists the family
as:
Josiah Nichols, 50 years a farmer born in Ky.
Value of real estate $1000, Value of personal estate $1400
Margarete, 40 years a housewife born in VA
Eli, 13 years
Ann, 10 years
W.P. Dent, farm hand
J.W. Smith, farm hand
The 1870 Caldwell County Census list:
Josiah, age 60 born KY
Margaret, age 50 born SC
Eli, age 24, born KY
Anna L. age 20, born KY
Robert P. Hubbard , age 21 born KY
Eli Nichols served as State Representative in Frankfort.
Josiah died on June 4, 1876.His birth and death dates are on his tombstone. His wife, Peggy lived to 1904. Both Josiah and Margaret are buried in the Perry Cemetery. Robert Hubbard, who would become Josiah's son-in-law, was the son of Sarah Perry Hubbard. The cemetery is found just off Route 293, about 4 miles northeast of Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky.
