PATRICK MORELAND

Return to Family Index

Patrick Moreland was born about 1680. The first we know of him is as a residence of Charles County Maryland. His parents are unknown.

Patrick’s wife is also unknown.

Patrick entered his cattle mark on March 3, 1706/7. Found in Charles County Land Records by E.G.Jourdan. We don’t know what that means.

The Charles County Maryland Deed Book H2, page 262-263 note that on June 15, 1719 John Magraw and George C. Dements were ordered to pay the balance due the heirs of Patrick Moreland’s estate. The children listed were John, Phillip, Mary, Patrick, William, and Jacob. The unpaid balance was 52 pounds, one shilling and seven pence.

The only birth date known is for Phillip Moreland. On a Feb 1768 Rent Roll for Charles County his age is given as 64. Thus we know he was born in 1704.

Nothing further is known about Patrick. However, the name Jacob Moreland occurred in Charles County court records on March 2, 1702, and in St. Mary County records from 1696 to 1701. It is highly likely these two men were connected. That connection is currently unknown.

Information was received from Julia Mortenson and from Rob Moreland’s web site of Morelands from Maryland, which is no longer available.  A trip to Charles County confirmed the early and active residence of the Moreland family.
