JOHANN FRIEDRICH MAIER
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
Johann Friedrich Maier was born Nov 8, 1779 in Bissingen, Wurttemberg, Germany. His parents were Cyriakus Maierand Rosina Schempp. from Bissingen an der Teck church records, births 1779 on page 320
A Maier Genealogy was written in the 1930's while a family member was living in Germany. All of this information came from that document. However, I also have a copy of the church records of Bissingen microfilmed by the LDS library. The handwriting is in old German and the spelling varies but the detail matches what had been discovered in the 1930s. The data was further confirmed by the new CD put out by the LDS, Vital Records of Western European chruch Records.
Johann Friedrich married Maria Barbara Kaufmann on June 7 1812 in Bissingen, Wurttemberg, Germany. This was a farm community. People lived in the village. Their barns were next to their houses, but the fields and orchards surrounded the village. They were not usually contiguous. That way they wouldn't loose everything if diaster hit one area and missed others.
Johann Friedrich Maier and Maria Barbara had twelve known children, all born in Bissingen.
1. Johann Christian born Aug 4, 1813 and died in 3 weeks.
2. Johann Christian

1872.
What a sad record to write. Of 12 children, 7 died in infancy.
Johann Friedrich died Nov.8, 1862. It was his 83 birthday. His wife Maria Barbara died just a few weeks later, on Dec. 29, 1862.
In the area around Stuttgart, there are 3 towns that could fit the name "Bissingen". They are Bissingen, Bisingen, and Bissingen an der Teck. After a careful study of the 1930's document we determined it is Bissingen an der Teck. This village is south east of Stuttgart.
