THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
Thomas Brinton was born in England. He was baptized on July 19, 1607 in the Sedgeley Parish Church . This and much of the following information was found in the Pennsylvania Magazine, Volume 37, 1913 pg 86-7 under "Genealogical Gleanings in Great Britain - Brinton". The writer is unknown but the "Brinton Memorial" and Brinton Notes, courtesy of George H. Earle, Jr. Esq were given. There is an out of print book that may have a lot of this information also, Sedgeley Part I, Baptims, Marriages, and Burials 1558 - 1684. It was printed in 1940/41. Records from this source are listed on AncestryPlus. LDS does not seem to have microfilm copies of the Sedgeley parish register. Often the record says Seuglen Parish, Sedgeley. It is not known how Seuglen fits into the Sedgeley Parish.
His parents were Thomas Brinton of Nether Gournall, Sedgeley and Ellin Mason of Staffordshire. Both families had been in this part of Staffordshire for centuries. See Nether Grournall for description of it's location.
On June 27, 1631 Thomas married Ann Biddle or Biddulph in Seuglen Parish, Sedgeley . The Biddle family were also of Sedgeley.
The Sedgley Parish records list a number of children of Thomas Brinton . They are probably the Thomas of our story. From the Seuglen Parish Registers:
1. Steven Brinton, "son of Thomas
Brinton
Jr." was baptized Jan 1, 1633.
2. William Brinton
, "son of Thomas Brinton" was
baptized Dec. 1, 1636. He is believe to be the
Immigrant to America.
An Unknown Brinton,
"son of Thomas Brinton" was
buried Jan 9, 1637.
3. Thomas Brinton, son of "Thomas
and Ann Brinton" was baptized May
30.1641.
He died a few months later
and was buried Aug. 8, 1641.
4. John Brinton,
named in her will.
The Brinton Notes by George H. Earle referred
to above stated that Thomas Brinton
buried in Sedgeley Parish on August 14, 1687. I
am looking for source confirmation. However,
recently researcher Valerie Day sent me a very
different suggestion. from Google book, "Sedgley,
1558-1684, Deanery of Himley", page 344 states that
Thomas Branston was buried March 6, 1680.
This could be our guy.
His wife, Ann Biddle Brinton died
early fall 1684. I have a copy of her will
dated Aug.23, 1684 and proved October 20, 1684. Lichfield Record Office
Wills Reference B/B/11. System # 25299, with
great thanks to John
Taplin for the copy. In it she states that
she is Anne Brineton
of Lower Gornall....widdowe.... So Thomas Brinton
predeceased her. In Mr. Taplin's notes he says Thomas Brinton died
probably in 1650.
Her will mentions three sons: John Brineton, William
Brineton and Stephen Braineton.
