THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
Thomas Brinton was born in England. He was baptized on May 31, 1562 in the Sedgeley Parish Church . This and much of the following information was found in the Pennsylvania Magazine, Volume 37, 1913 pg 86-7 under "Genealogical Gleanings in Great Britain - Brinton". The writer is unknown but the "Brinton Memorial" and Brinton Notes, courtesy of George H. Earle, Jr. Esq were given. There is an out of print book that may have a lot of this information also, Sedgeley Part I, Baptims, Marriages, and Burials 1558 - 1684. It was printed in 1940/41. Records from this source are listed on AncestryPlus. LDS does not seem to have microfilm copies of the Sedgeley parish register. Often the record says Seuglen Parish, Sedgeley. It is not known how Seuglen fits into the Sedgeley Parish.
There are a number of Thomas Brinton's in this
story. The Thomas of this story is the
father of Thomas and the son of Thomas.
All three plus more are generations of Brintons of
Nether Gournall, Sedgeley, Staffordshire.
See Nether
Grournall for
description of it's location.
His mother is unknown so far.
On September 21, 1605 Thomas
married Ellin Mason of
Staffordshire. from Sedgeley Parish Records. The Masons
were a very ancient family of Staffordshire.
The Brintons were landowners and farmers.
The Masons were engaged in mining.
The Sedgley Parish records list a number of children of Thomas
Brinton . They are probably the Thomas of
our story. From the Seuglen Parish Registers:
The listed children of Ellin and Thomas Brinton
are:
1. John Brinton
2. William Brinton
3. Harry Brinton
4. Thomas Brinton, born
and then baptized on July 19, 1607 in the Sedgeley
Parish Church, Pennsylvania Magazine, Volume
37, 1913 pg 86-7 under "Genealogical Gleanings in
Great Britain - Brinton". He may have
been their eldest child.
One online source stated that Ellin Brinton died
Dec. 6 1642, and her husband Thomas Brinton died
in May 12, 1660. That would have been a very old age of
98. But there is no source stated for
either. We can hope the Sedgeley Parish records have
that information
