CASSIMER MISSIMER
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
Cassimer S. Missimer was born March 14, 1789 in
Pennsylvania, the year re 1850 PA Census, M432_764,
pg127, stated he was 61 years old, to Henry Brandt Missimer
and Susanna
Schultz. Cassimer was the
middle child of 9. according to an Ancestry tree
site, that gave the names and dates of all the children,
and said they came from the church records. I
still need to confirm those records. They were
members of the Zion Reformed Church in Pottstown PA.
Six of the children had the middle initial "S", the
youngest had Schultz as middle name. I think we can
guess that all the S's stood for Schultz. Therefore
he was Cassimer Schultz Missimer , he would have
been born in Montgomery County PA near Pottstown and
New Hanover.
Martha Ann Missimer kept the Missimer family
Bible. She had married William Missimer, son
of Cassimer and Mary Gregg Missimer.
It is called Robinson's Bible. It was written up
in Bible Records from the Missimer Bible - published by
John B. Perry 1851 in Philadelphia. it is recorded also
as FHL 896755. Re the bible Cassimer
and Mary
Gregg were married by JP Samuel Sinclair,
Esquire on March 18, 1814. This probably took
place in Chester County PA. That was where Mr.
Sinclair was JP and that was the home of Mary
Gregg. It would be lovely to know what
took our Cassimer from Montgomery County down to
Chester County. But they did make their home in that
area.
In 1817 a few years after their marriage, Cassimer
Missimer is given a Tax Discount. No reason
was given in the Chester Ct Tax Discount Index
1740-1845. but by this we know he is
still in Chester County PA.
They do not appear on the 1820 Census, but starting on 1830
Census we can begin to get a picture of their
family. The family is listed in New London,
Chester Ct. PA, page 216.
the family has:

On the 1850 Pa Census,
M 432_764, page 127, the family is still in London Britain,
Chester County PA just next to New
Garden.PA. Cassimer
is a farmer. There are still 2 children at home, Margaret age 18 and Samuel D. age
16. Their son
William J. had married in 1849 and was living
with his wife's family in Delaware.
The Missimer Bible supports the names and dates
of some of the children.
From the Ancestry Family tree and if other
resources I'll name them. They all fit the ages on the 3
census's. We believe the family to be made up of:
Henry Gregg born 1814, died 1869, wed Rachel,
Delaware probate
records
Jacob born 1815, died
1875
John born 1818 or

We also know that Mary Gregg married Cassimer Missimer and had son William because of William's tombstone. Would they all tell us muchIn 1860 there was a Chester County Orphans Court Document, a letter of Administration for Casimer Missimer #13721, dated April 2, 1860. It was found at the Chester County Archives. The letter names William Missimer of New Castle County Delaware Administrator for the estate of Cassimer Missimer of New Castle County, Delaware. There had been no will for Cassimer found by that time. However, there is a New Castle County, Delaware Probate record held at the Delaware Archives dated 1858 #RG2545.001 on roll #303. It state that an inventory was made of the estate for Cassimer Missimer on May 31, 1858, "late of Mill Creek Hundred". William Missimer sold the land listed in 1861. It was at the intersection of Newport Gap Pike next to Brackin property. I don't know how he came by this property. I cannot find where he purchased the property - but he did owe a mortgage of $3000.
There was also a Delaware Probate in the records because he was living in New Castle County with his son. It was dated Nov. 12, 1858. It did not list any land, but some nice items, like a silver watch, walnut secretary, set of silver spoons and the most valued item - a Horse and saddle. The inventory was valued at $379, and that was accepted in the probate records by sons William and Henry Missimer.
William Missimer died May 11, 1883 and is buried in New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
What is really nice is their tombstone tells their story. There is a photo of it at Find A Grave Memorial# 38583263
It is a large stone and reads "William Missimer son of
Cassimer and Mary Gregg Missimer
June 11, 1825 - May 11, 1883
Martha Ann Missimer daughter of
Charles and Hannah Devlin
March 9, 1830 - October 4, 1908
On the reverse side is an inscription "In memory of their Daughter Elizabeth Haines".
