ELIZABETH EVANS
The Greenwood Genealogy Trimble County Kentucky states
that Elisabeth Evans was born in Virginia in
1785. Her father was Edward Evans. He signed the consent form so
that so could marry William Greenwood. Joel Russell supplied a
copy of the document, we are still searching for the original
source.
Elizabeth married William Greenwood September 3, 1800 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He had recently moved there with his family from Rowan County, North Carolina.
It was originally believed that Elizabeth and William had the
following known children:
1. John C. Greenwood born 1808 in Shelby Ct Kentucky, wed Martha
Jane Maddox
2. Joseph H. Greenwood born 1808 in
Shelby Ct. Kentucky, wed Nancy Peggs
(twins?)
3. Elisha C. Greenwood born August 28, 1811 in Kentucky, wed Nancy
Ann Harley
4. Isaac S. Greenwood born 1816 in Kentucky, wed Catherine
M. Young
5. Moses Greenwood born August 24, 1817 in Kentucky, wed Mary
Harley
However
The Trimble County census again gives us ages. A few
differences show up. In 1860 we have listed:
1. Joseph age 52, born 1808 in Lincoln County married to Nancy Peggs.
2. John was born about 1810 and died before 1850 leaving his
wife Martha with at least 2 children. She had not remarried by 1870.
3. Elisha, age 48, born 1812 in Lincoln Ct.
4. Isaac, age 44, born in 1816 in Kentucky
5. Moses, age 42, born 1818 in Shelby Ct
Elizabeth died sometime after Moses’ birth and Sept 27, 1842 when William married Mary (Polly) Parham.
According to a personal record of the Maddox family written by Ernest Greenwood Maddox about 1920, the children of William and Mary Greenwood were Joseph, John C., Elisha, Isaac, and Moses. That would imply that their mother had died while they were young and they did not carry on stories of her to the next generation.
