 THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.

Johann Georg Kaufmann was born February 25, 1752 in Bissingen an der Tech, Wurttenberg Germany. His parents were Johann Georg Kaufmann and Catharina Walz.

The families had lived in this small town for hundreds of years. In the area around Stuttgart, there are 3 towns that could fit the name "Bissingen". They are Bissingen, Bisingen, and Bissingen an der Teck. After a careful study of the 1930's document we believe it is the Bissingen an der Teck. This village is south east of Stuttgart

The LDS library has a microfilm of the church in Bissingen. All the information here comes from this document. Reading the old German scrip is a challenge. We can scan the piece so you can attempt to see it also. Just click under Contact Us with the request.  One wonderful form has the family record. It includes the birth and death date of the bride and groom, their parents, and all their children with birth , confirmation and death.

On October 20, 1778 Johann Georg Kaufmann Jr. married Maria Barbara Holpp.

The children found on the family form are:

1. Johannes Kaufmann born October 24,1779, confirmed 1792. Perhaps died in 1859
|2. Tinsecad Kaufmann (closest I can come) born Jan 28 1781, confirmed 1795, perhaps died in 1853
3. Christina Catharine Kaufmann born February 25, 1783, confirmed 1797.
4. Johann Georg Kaufmann born January 23, 1785, confirmed 1799. Died maybe April 5, 1812.
5. Diana Margaretha Kaufmann born December 23, 1786. She was not confirmed. Death date looks like 1808.
6. Leonard Kaufmann born September 2, 1788, confirmed 1802. Died July 17, 1867.
7. Maria Barbara Kaufmann born Dec 3, 1790, confirmed 1804. Died Dec 29, 1862. She married Johann Friedrich Maier

This family seems to have lost no infants, and most children lived to an old age. This was not always common.

Johann Georg died October 13, 1824. Maria Barbara Holpp Kaufmann lived 12 years after her husband. She died April 8, 1836.
